Since the SS guards destroyed many documents as the US soldiers approached, the statements of contemporary witnesses in the processing and reconstruction of the history of the Landsberg/Kaufering subcamp complex are of great value.

They offer personal, albeit selective, impressions of life in the camps. However, only those who survived the time in the subcamps have a voice. Therefore, many of the fates and stories of the victims remain in the dark.
